“If you want to really hurt your parents, and you don’t have the nerve to be gay, the least you can do is go into the arts. I’m not kidding. The arts are no way to make a living. They are a very human way of making life more bearable. Practicing an art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow, for heaven’s sake. Sing in the shower. Dance to the radio. Tell stories. Write a poem to a friend, even a lousy poem. Do it as well as you possibly can. You will get an enormous reward. You will have created something.” -Kurt Vonnegut

Awesomeness is Michael Cogliantry’s “Furry Kama Sutra”

 daily palette

My new favorite daily-web-thing is The Daily Palette, a project by the University of Iowa to highlight the state’s artists – writers, painters, photographers, sculptors, video artists, etc. Something new everyday from someone in Iowa!

stark work

Wow! This woman’s work is amazing – she creates sculptures from stacks of construction paper. Check out Jen Stark’s online gallery.

miserable artist

hahaha…How to feel miserable as an artist by Keri Smith.

 keri smith book

Creative inspiration = Keri Smith. She has a blog, wish jar, and is an author/illustrator/guerilla artist.

I need to start sketching. Here is my inspiration: Khoi Vinh’s blog entry about leaving his camera at home and taking only his Moleskine sketchbook to the South by Southwest conference. Cool idea though I’d never ever leave my camera at home!

 minty camera

Really really want to make one… and have it work. Photojojo has links to pinhole camera tutorials. Love this pinhole image on flickr and this one’s almost scary. Here’s a tutorial for a matchbox pinhole.
